It was very nice to see local plants and animals in the city that has destroyed almost all of its natural environment. We learned the 90% of the wetlands in California have been destroyed in the last 100 years. I hope the LA area and greater California can work to reverse that and put value on all eco systems since they help us as humans too.

This is a beautiful wetland preserve not typically open to the public but I joined a bird watching group that had access to enter along the dirt road on the northwest side of the preserve, and sure enough we saw tons of birds here! Plovers, willets, herons, egrets, terns, even heard the elusive Savanah Sparrow

Im lucky enough to live in front of this peaceful place. Come anytime during the day to enjoy a nice walk or bike ride surrounded by the sound of the birds, ducks and the smell of amazing flowers. It’s also a nice path that connects MDR with PDR!

NOTE: MOST OF THR TRAIL IS CLOSED FOR MAINTNENCE AS OF MARCH 2024. parking lot is closed as well. The project was slated for completion in fall of 2023. Trail is not easy on the ankles given course wood mulch and the trail being torn up by vehicles.
